Following the Met Office's Red Extreme Heat Warning, all MNSP schools will be closed to pupils and staff on Thursday 25 June 2026.
This decision has been taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, staff, and wider school community during the period of extreme temperatures.
Water Safety During Hot Weather
With temperatures remaining exceptionally high, many people may be looking for ways to cool down. While rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs, and other areas of open water may appear inviting, they can present significant dangers.
Open water is often much colder than it looks, even during a heatwave. Entering cold water suddenly can cause cold water shock, which can affect breathing, swimming ability, and the ability to stay afloat.
To stay safe:
- Keep cool by drinking plenty of water and seeking shade wherever possible.
- Only swim in designated areas where it is safe and permitted to do so.
- Never jump, dive, or enter unfamiliar water.
- Avoid entering the water alone and always stay with others.
If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, remember the "Float to Live" advice: tilt your head back, keep your ears submerged, relax, and focus on controlling your breathing until help arrives or you are able to recover.
We look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Friday, when cooler temperatures are forecast. However, we will continue to monitor the situation closely. Should circumstances change, we will communicate any further closures or changes to arrangements through our usual channels.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and continued support.
